Nissan Cube MI vehicles may be included in the recent recall announcement made by Nissan and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Nissan Cube MI owners should know about a recall involving 2009 and 2008 model-year Nissan Cubes made between Jan. 30, 2009 and July 30, 2010. The vehicles involved in the recall fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirement No. 301, which is fuel system integrity.
During a crash test in which the vehicle rotates after a rear-end collision, fuel leakage was over allowable limits. Nissan Cube MI drivers would face an increased risk of fire if they were involved in a rear-end crash with spinout in the presence of an igniting source. Nissan Cube MI dealers will create a protector to attach to the gasoline recirculation tube at the point of the filler neck connector.
The service will be performed free of charge on the affected vehicles. The recall is set to begin Aug. 30, 2010.
People wondering if their Nissan Cube MI vehicle is among the recalled may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
